On September 5th at the age of 93, Jeanne Davis Hatcher entered Heaven. An Orlando native, she was born on May 29, 1930, the daughter of former Orlando Mayor J. Rolfe Davis Sr. and Jeannette Griffin Davis. She attended Orlando city schools, including Delaney Street School where she later taught 1st grade. Jeanne began her college years at Florida State University, where she pledged Chi Omega. She transferred to the University of Florida where she met Marion Hatcher of Tampa. They became sweethearts, married in 1953 and celebrated 59 years together prior to his death in 2012.
To her family she was a fabulous wife, mother, mother- in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was known as "Honey" to her grandchildren and their friends. Jeanne and Marion raised their children with a steady and strong foundation of Christian faith and love. She was a constant source of praise, support and encouragement to her family attending swim meets, plays and special events. Family time spent at Ormond Beach created many happy memories.
Jeanne was so personable and had the gift of putting people at ease. Because of this, she had friends of all ages- neighbors, golf partners, traveling companions, bridge buddies and Bible study/church. She enjoyed being an active member of The Rosalind Club and the Country Club of Orlando. She was particularly proud of founding the Black Sheep needlepoint shop in 1972 with dear friends. She is already deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Jan H. Cox (Reid) and son, Marion (Mike) Hatcher III (Holly) and five grandchildren: Jenny Cox Lane (Taylor), Will Cox (Caroline), Troy Thatcher (Emily), Dr. Abby Jeanne Hatcher, and Marion (Duke) Hatcher IV; and 4 great grandchildren. Also her brother, J. Rolfe (Bud) Davis Jr. and beloved nephews, nieces and cousins.
Following a private interment at Greenwood Cemetery, a celebration of Jeanne's life will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in Quigley Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial gifts be sent to St. Michael's Church or Eagle Rock Christian Retreat Center (P.O. Box 5405, Maryville, TN 37802) or a charity/ministry of your choice.
