Connie J. Jones, age 81 of Maitland, FL, passed away January 26, 2011 after a courageous 3 year battle with lung cancer. She fought the fight with the same strength, determination and optimism that defined her entire life.
Connie was born January 13, 1930 in Knox County, Illinois, the eldest daughter of Earl and Pearl Morgan. Growing up on a farm with her brother, Philip Morgan, and sisters, Doris Smith and Phyllis Neu, she developed lifelong friendships with her siblings that lasted throughout the years.
Upon graduating from Williamsfield High School, she took her first job at radio station WBYS, where she read the latest recipes ‘on the air,’ beginning a successful varied career that spanned many decades. When Connie went to work as a secretary at International Harvester, she met a young Jack Jones, fell in love, and got married, which would eventually become a 61 year marriage for the two.
Along the way, Connie and Jack gave birth to their daughter Lynette Jones Isaacs and son Reed Jones. When the family moved to Dunwoody, Georgia in 1962, Connie balanced a career as a sales secretary in the aviation field, with her full time job as mother and wife. Juggling a busy schedule, she always found the time to support her children’s various endeavors, such as leading her young daughter’s Brownie scout troop or being co-president of the parent booster group for her son’s high school band.
Always one to find the fun in every situation, Connie loved planning neighborhood theme parties and happy hours, creating many unforgettable wild and wacky memories that are still talked about to this day. But, in addition to creating good times, Connie also loved creating fashion, art, and crafts as she spent many joyful hours sewing, painting, doing needle crafts, and collaborating on artistic endeavors with friends and family.
Once her children had left the house and went on to college, Connie and Jack relocated to Maitland, FL in 1976 to begin their newest adventure. For many years she worked in Orlando as the Executive Sales Secretary at Hanger One/Beechcraft, until retirement in 1997. Never one to sit and rest, Connie led an active life of traveling, gardening, painting, and, one of her favorite things, talking and laughing with her sisters in Illinois almost nightly on the phone.
Connie was strong, determined, and always sensible. She was outrageous, irreverent, and always fun. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. Connie is a phenomenal woman who will be missed by all.
Connie is survived by her husband, Jack, her children Lynette and Reed, her grandson Zackrey Isaacs, and her brother Phil. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis, Doris, and Betty Jean Morgan.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29th at 10 a.m. at the Aloma United Methodist Church in Winter Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Connie to the American Cancer Society.
