Catherine Eleanor Neville, 88, of Bradenton, Florida passed away on December 8, 2017. She was born on December 20, 1928 in Andover, Massachusetts to the late Elie and Mary (Burbine) Surette. Kay was the wife of the late John F. “Jack” Neville, Jr. of Newport, Rhode Island whom she married on December 10, 1950.
Kay was an exceptional Science teacher who loved the younger children in the 6th– 8th grades. She earned her BA in Education from Rivier College in Nashua, NH and her Master’s Degree from Salve Regina in Newport, RI. She and Jack lived in Newport for about 30 years. She taught in the Newport School System and Jack worked for the US Government. They moved to Orlando, Florida in the early 80’s. Kay continued teaching at St. Andrew’s Catholic School in Orlando and during her tenure there she was nominated for the National Teacher of the Year award, receiving the honor of being selected as the runner up. Jack passed away in Orlando in the late 80’s.
Ten years later, Kay met her longtime companion, Marvin L. Evans. They moved to Bradenton, FL and enjoyed a life in retirement filled with many, many, many (did I say many ? ) cruises all around the world. Marv is an avid photographer and would take hundreds of photos. Kay enjoyed putting them all in photo albums, each picture documented and protected, and she would send these books to her daughter, Kathy to enjoy.
Kay was also an active and dedicated promoter of the Miraculous Medal through the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal.
Kay was preceded in death by her brother, Teddy Surette from Andover, MA and sister, Rita (Buckley) from Salisbury Beach, MA. She is survived by her sister, Helen (Reming) of Clearwater, FL.
While Kay had no grandchildren of her own, she has many nieces, nephews (and “grand” ones) in Massachusetts, Florida, Texas and New Hampshire. She also was able to enjoy and become an important part of Marv’s family – his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren who live in Florida, Ohio and Virginia.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30pm, Saturaday, December 16, 2017 at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789.
