Carolyn Dorothy Lange Peters

Carolyn Dorothy Lange Peters went home to Jesus on February 26, 2024. She had been living in Ocoee, FL and was 95 years old. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Charlotte, NC), her son Robert (Apopka, FL), her granddaughter Elisabeth Myrick and husband JD (Tampa, FL), great-grandchildren Kendall, Jack and Cate Myrick along other nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert.

Carolyn was born April 2, 1928 in Newark, NJ. She lived her early childhood years in the Newark area and moved to Washington DC at the age of 7. Her father George Lange was an engineer and her mother Eva was a homemaker, seamstress and switchboard operator.

She met her husband Bob in 1944 when he was working at a local movie theater and she was selling war bonds at the theater. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1946 and went to work for Eastman Kodak as a bookkeeper. She and Bob were married in 1949 when he was discharged from the Army. Their first child Carolyn was born in April 1950 four months before Bob was recalled to the Army and sent to Korea. While Bob was in Korea, she worked at the Bureau of Surgery for the US Navy.

Bob was critically wounded in Korea in January 1951 and sent back to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After he recovered and was medically discharged by the Army, he enlisted in the Air Force. Their second child Robert was born in Aurora, CO in October 1955. From this point on, the family was on the move living in 8 states and one foreign country before Bob retired in 1975. Bob and Carolyn relocated to Central Florida at that time.

One of the family’s hobbies was NASCAR stock car racing. Bob and his son were crew members for Cup driver David Sisco. Carolyn and her daughter were NASCAR Official timers and scorers at several sanctioned race tracks and worked with various teams.

From her childhood, Carolyn was a dedicated seamstress and needle-woman. She enjoyed sewing clothes for herself and her children, knitting, embroidery, and other crafts. She and Bob participated in numerous craft shows around central Florida where she sold many beautiful handmade items.

In retirement, they were active with their church, the Shrine, and other Masonic organizations. They also enjoyed traveling including a trip to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. A personal highlight for Carolyn was a trip she took with a church group to the Holy Land. Carolyn returned to her bookkeeping career at Alco Truck Rental while Bob taught Automotive Service Technology at Mid Florida Tech and Apopka High School.

A graveside service will occur on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Glen Haven Memorial Park located at 2300 Temple Drive, Winter Park, Florida 32789.
