Barbara H. Hood

Barbara Hood, 67, of Orlando passed away quietly on Thursday March 31, 2016. She is survived by her mother, Basia Harkiewicz, brother Paul Harkiewicz, husband Bill Hood, sons Bryan Ricks, Patrick Hood, Phillip Hood, Michael Hood and grandchildren Sarah, Tyler, Jacob, Ana, Shannon, Chloe, Dylan and Peyton. She is preceded in death by her father, Ret. Air Force Colonel Joe Harkiewicz.

Barbara was born at MacDill Air Force Base and traveled the world while growing up in an active Air Force family. As a teenager in Japan, she played and sang back up in a band, even opening for The Beatles in their earliest days. As an adult, she achieved a Master’s Degree in education, graduating from UCF when it was still called FTU. She taught for many years in both the Orange and Seminole County School districts. She loved to read and often encouraged her grandchildren to learn the love of books as well.

A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, April 9th from 5pm-8pm at Baldwin Fairchild/ Aloma for all who wish to attend. Services will be held at Baldwin Fairchild on Sunday April 10th at 11am followed by a procession to Chapel Hill Cemetery and grave side memorial.
