Tom served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Veteran, Purple Heart recipient and received a combat infantry badge. After serving his country, Tom went on to get a Law Degree from University of Puget Sound as well to become an Insurance Claims Investigator for State Farm. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, the Florida Men’s Choir, he helped create the Tom Wood Street Ministry and was a child advocate with guardian ad litem. Tom was also one of the biggest fans of NASCAR racing you could find.
Tom was preceded in death by his deceased wife Sandra D. Wood, son Tedd Thomas Wood, father Elmer Wood, mother Ione Wood Gleason, brother Bill Wood, sister Linda Mortensen, brother-in-law Greg Cotter and his sister Karen's partner Dale Berg. He is survived by his wife Donna M. Wood of Eagle Lake, FL, daughter Angie Penosky and husband Joe of Ocklawaha, FL, daughter Shannon Scott and husband Robert of Lexington, KY, son Matt Moon and wife Paula of Winter Haven, FL, son Brian Moon and wife Jennifer of Winter Haven, FL, brother Dennis Wood and wife Sandra of Minnesota, sister Karen Eliason of Minnesota and sister Joanne Cotter of Tucson, AZ. Tom is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Redeemer Winter Haven, 1410 Dundee Rd, Winter Haven, FL 33884.
