He was born July 14, 1922 in Knoxville, IA. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1945. He served in World War II, was a Navy pilot and retired in 1964 to what he called “God’s Little Acre” on Lake Hamilton. He later worked for Race and Race Irrigation, was a partner in a Pizza Inn franchise, and had a second career in banking. He was a member of the Lions Club, Lake Region Yacht and Country Club, and, for 70 years, the Masonic Lodge.
Ted enjoyed golf, water sports, traveling, and camping. He and his wife were avid square dancers.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Winifred Johnson of Winter Haven; his son Tom and daughter-in-law Terri of Winter Haven; his daughter Lynn Murrell of Sarasota; his sister Shirley Bellamy of Knoxville, IA; his brother Keith Johnson of Rapid City, SD; three grandchildren: Susan Johnson of New York, Lisa Alvarez and David Murrell, both of Bradenton; and four great-grandchildren: Edward, Stefano, Graham, and Isla.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, February 15, at 10:00 am at Hope Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2590 Havendale Blvd.,NW, Winter Haven, FL. 33881.
