Roy McClain Harmon, age 82, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 surrounded by family. Roy was born in Winter Haven on October 14, 1934 to James Franklin and Mildred Lucille Shelton Harmon, and was a lifelong resident of Winter Haven.
He graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1952 where he was Captain of the football team, a member of the golf team, and was also voted Most Popular his senior year.
He served in the U.S. Army, 264th Field Artillery Battalion, in Germany. After his military service, he attended the University of Florida where he was a member of the ATO fraternity and where he became a lifelong Gator fan. He was a Florida licensed real estate broker and owner of Harmon Realty of Winter Haven, specializing in citrus groves. He was a 50+ year member of the Winter Haven Elks Club.
Roy enjoyed reading, cheering on the Gators and boating and speckled perch fishing with his lifelong friends.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tommy James Harmon, and his daughter, Linda Harmon Morgan. He is survived by his children, Bill (Cheryl) Harmon, Blake McClain (Cindy) Harmon, Jill Harmon Snively, Reed (Angie) Harmon and Rush Harmon; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his siblings, Patricia Harmon Wuchte Belcher, Dexter (Ronnie) Harmon, and Darlene Harmon (Art) Short; Carolyn Linebaugh Harmon, the mother of his children; his life partner, Jeanann Newland Hughes; his aunt, LaVan Ellis; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Redeemer City Church, 1410 Dundee Road, Winter Haven, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale or Redeemer City Church in Winter Haven.
