Bill was born on September 23, 1926 in Cherry Tree, PA. Bill grew up in Titusville, PA with his parents, Arthur and Margaret Murray on their farm along with his 10 brothers and sisters.
Bill worked for Republic Steel Corp in Ohio for many years. He was a member of North Mar Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was active in the Christian Service Brigade. He also taught Sunday School for the church. Bill and Alice moved to Florida in 1984. He worked for Martin Marietta in Orlando. He enjoyed spending his leisure time playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Church at the Cross and was active in the church for many years.
Bill was a very active man and enjoyed swimming, hiking, hunting, camping and horse back riding. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He served on the U.S.S. Gilbert Islands in the Pacific theater. One of the joys of his life was to take "The Freedom Flight" to Washington DC to visit the World War II memorial along with his fellow veterans.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alice J. Murray in 2013; his sons: Errol R. Gilbert and William Dennis (Billy) Murray; his daughter Peggy A. Kightlinger; his brothers and sisters: Patricia (Patty) Murray, Mildred (Millie) Murray Irvine, Dora (Dot) May Murray Peeling, Harold L. (Hoops) Murray, Jan Murray Weilacher and A. Richard (Dick) Murray and by his first wife, Margaret A. Hillkirk Murray Gamlin.
Bill is survived by his children: William J. Murray, Sharon R. (Eric) Pritzker, Eric B. (Valerie) Gilbert and Donald A. (Donnie) Murray-Gamlin; his brothers and sisters: John L. (Jack) Murray, Betty E. (Murray) Eldred, Edward (Ed) Murray and Donna (Murray) Stockwell and by his 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 10 AM - 11 AM with funeral service to follow at 11 AM in the chapel of Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Winter Garden, FL. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Murray can be made to Church at the Cross, Orlando, FL.
