Dr. Nedumpurath Philip “N.P.” John, the 7th and last child of Philipose and Annama, was born on May 1, 1938 in Punnakkad, Kerala, India. He attended C.M.S. High School in Kuzhikkala, Kerala, and St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry, Kerala, with his B.S. in Botany with minor in Zoology.
N.P. was united into holy matrimony with Mariamma “Asha”(nee Mathew) in January 1966, then immigrated to Bourbonnais, IL that same month to attend Olivet Nazarene College where he graduated with his B.S. in Zoology and minor in General Chemistry. He continued his education throughout his life to obtain a Masters in Elementary Education, a Masters in Psychology, and a Doctorate of Ministry in Counseling and Theology.
His life was devoted to his strong Christian faith, dedicating his time to serving the Mar Thoma Church and providing Christian counseling to those in need.
N.P. was the first of the Koippillail family to migrate to the U.S. and become a U.S. Citizen. He was dedicated to supporting his family members by bringing 23 nieces and nephews, as well as his wife’s family to immigrate to the U.S. Because of his commitment to his family, his family’s presence has expanded to well over 100 relatives in the U.S.
He was a mental health professional, practicing as a Social Worker and Psychologist for the State of Illinois for almost 30 years. He also had success in business ventures of real estate investments and franchise-ownership.
He is survived by his 2 sons and 1 daughter’s families and 4 grandchildren: Dilip and Robyn, Mathew “Manoj” and Shalu with children, Sara and Sarena, and Preetha with children, Clive and Aria, as well as his recent marriage to Sosamma, He is predeceased by his loving wife, Asha, his 2 sisters, Annamma and Rachel, and 4 brothers, Mathew, Varghese, George, and Kunjukutty.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many and will be remembered for his kindness, love and joyful spirit.
A visitation will be held on Saturday October 13, 2018 from 10:00am to 11:30am with funeral service to follow at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home with burial following at Winter Garden Cemetery.
A reception will immediately follow the burial at the India Pentecostal Church (IPC) Orlando 11551 County Road 535, Orlando, Florida 32836
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Orlando Mar Thoma Church, 145 West Broadway Street, Oviedo, FL, 32765, for the N.P. John Memorial Fund in which funds will be distributed to underprivileged children of Kerala, India.
