He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, of 70 years, son Bud, his two daughters Debbie and Donna, six grandchildren, Amy, Denise, David, Eric, Chelsea, Christina and four great grandsons Quentin, Peyton, Logan and Maddox.
His life’s work was steeped in service to others and to his God. In 1943 he began working for Florida Hospital Sanitarium. Twenty years later he was asked to move to the rural town of Oneida, Kentucky to manage a 17-bed hospital. Knowing that the area needed a bigger hospital, he appeared before the Kentucky State Legislature and the US Congress to successfully obtain all of the funding to build a 60-bed facility in the neighboring town of Manchester. He remained hospital administrator of the Manchester Memorial Hospital until his retirement. Today, this hospital continues to grow and provide healthcare to the people of Eastern Kentucky. This was his proudest achievement.
After retiring, he and Pat returned to Orlando and he continued to be a supporting figure in his local Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Herbert lived a full and rich life, always giving a friendly smile to friends and strangers, opening his heart and home to anyone in need. He was a faithful husband and father with a loving heart and nurturing spirit.
You will be forever missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Rest peacefully, Herb, in the arms of your God.
Graveside Inurnment will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, Florida.
