

Born in 1931 to George and Edna Dunlop on the east bank of the River Foyle, in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in a home located above a greengrocers shop on the corner of Spencer Road and Duke Street. She grew up in that Waterside neighborhood of Londonderry (a.k.a., Derry) in the company of her parents and four sisters and three brothers. The family shared a love of music, particularly singing, and Betty and her sisters would often be invited to various venues to entertain audiences with their singing. In 1950 she met the love of her life, George Dane, at the cafe in the Northern Counties Hotel in Derry and married her handsome sailor 18 months later. Marriage to a Petty Officer of Royal Navy would lead to many moves for Betty, including to Gibraltar and Scotland. After the Royal Navy years she and George moved their young family to the United States in 1958 to the small rural town of Willis, Michigan.
Later in life, while still raising a growing family, she worked for several years as an travel agent and consultant for AAA. She and George then retired to Florida in 1986, where she worked at Publix for several years. In Florida she enjoyed bingo, bowling and other such pastimes with her many friends and was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her energy, perseverance and dedication to her husband and family .
She is survived by her sons Derek (Ann), Roy (Nancy) and David (Lidia) Dane, her daughter Linda (Brent) Taylor, her sisters Rene Cruikshank and Olivia Stich, her brothers George, William and Henry (Harry) Dunlop, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, She is predeceased by both of her parents, George and Edna Dunlop; her husband of 69 1/2 years, George Dane; and her sisters Desney Reid and Faye Turoski.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
