Dr. Donald Herzog, 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022. He was born in Lampasas, Texas, lived with his family on their farm in Wilson, and earned degrees in Entomology from Texas Tech and LSU. Don served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam. His 25 year career was with the University of Florida.
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Koslan Herzog of Clermont, FL; daughter Dawn Alsene (Steve) of Winter Garden, FL; son Nathan Herzog (Katie) of Portland, OR; grandchildren Melanie Moore (Jeremy) of Ft Myers, FL; Megan Alsene, Ryan Alsene, and Riley Alsene of Winter Garden, FL; sister Kay Arellano (John) of Lubbock, TX and many nieces and nephews. God blessed Don with many family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Leona Herzog, and his brother Gary Herzog.
Don was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and served as an usher, elder, and choir member in congregations in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. One of Don’s joys was working with Shepherd’s Hope at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and School in Oviedo, FL.
Don was a quiet Christian man who centered his life on his faith and visiting and playing games with family and friends. He will be remembered as being kind and gentle.
