Curtis Alvin “Pete” Rogers, 87, of Winter Garden, FL died on Friday, May 6, 2022. He was a life-long resident of Winter Garden born to the late Robert E. and Lillie J. (Schmitt) Rogers. Pete graduated from Lakeview High School in 1953. After graduation, he spent two years playing AA baseball as a pitcher for the Birmingham Yankees (a farm team for the New York Yankees) and remained a loyal fan thereafter. He was drafted by the government and served two years in the U.S. Army, stationed briefly in Germany.
Following his military service, he began his career with the Continental Can Company in Winter Garden and retired after 31 dedicated years. Retirement couldn’t hold Pete for very long, he got a part-time job working at the Manheim Auto Auction in Winter Garden which lasted for 15 years! “Papa Pete” was a loving family man. He enjoyed taking care of and spending time with his three granddaughters. He will forever be missed.
Pete is survived by Julia Faye Rogers, his beloved wife of 60 years; his sons, Gary and wife Brenda and Steve and wife Simone; his adored granddaughters: Lauren Clute and husband Daniel and Robin and Aubrey Rogers and his big brother, Robert L. Rogers. In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his brother, James T. Rogers.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, May 14 from 11am – 12 pm at the Calvary Baptist Church, 631 S Dillard St, Winter Garden followed by a funeral service at 12 noon. Pete will be laid to rest in Winter Garden Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
