He was born October 03, 1928 to the Reverend Charles Weathers Henderson and Flora Ellsworth Bowden Henderson in Forsyth, Georgia where his father was serving as a Baptist minister. Charles attended high school in Cleveland and spent a year at Piedmont College and a second year at Truitt-McConnell College. He joined the Navy at age eighteen and served as deck crew on a Tanker.
After his time in the Navy, Charles lived in Georgia for more than fifteen years where he worked at JD Jewel Chicken Processing and at John B Daniels Wholesale Druggist in Atlanta. Charles and his mother, Flora moved to Winter Garden, Florida and lived across the street from his older brother Edgar for many years. Charles was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Winter Garden. Charles was particularly fond of working in the yard and garden and one of his favorite memories involved walks along the shores of Lake Apopka and enjoying the sun and weather by the lake.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Carolyn and brother Edgar (Mullins). All of the Henderson children served in the Armed Services, his brother Edgar commanded a LST during WWII while his sister served as an Army Nurse in England. He is survived by three nieces, Carol Ritsch, Sandra Dean and Ina Jones, four great nieces and a great nephew, five great-great nieces, and four great-great nephews, all residing in Oklahoma and Tennessee.
