Vaughn Avery Booker, on May 2, 2023 left us in a senseless car accident where he was a passenger. His father is feeling irreconcilable grief over his sudden unnecessary and tragic death. His friends and colleagues are saddened by his untimely death before his time.
He was the beloved son of Vaughn and Averya Booker, and he is survived by his family. He was a loving and caring son and brother. He now joins his Mother, whom he loved deeply and is surely in her loving arms.
Vaughn was a gifted student in Charlotte N.C., where he grew up. He could have attended any university but he loved UNC, from where he graduated and worked, for 17 years in the educational technology area until his death.
Vaughn devoted himself to excellence as expressed by his colleagues. He was always a calm and steady presence when challenges arose. He gave 100% to every project regardless of the scope. Vaughn was a hard worker, team player and well liked by his peers. He was nominated for the Professional Excellence Peer Award in April 2023.
Vaughn had personality and charisma and made friends immediately, whether at work, his favorite Japanese restaurant or on the tennis court, which he enjoyed. His energy and laughter was infectious.
Vaughn was a wonderful son and person whose impact will be forever felt by his family, friends and those who loved him dearly. He was a selfless person whose passing has left a hole in the hearts of so many. His qualities and love will be what we will cherish to the end of our days .
Vaughn grew into an exceptional young man, with whom his father enjoyed spending time. Averya did not get to see the man he turned into, but he was the best of both his parents. His Mother would have been very proud of him, and no father could have asked for a better son! Losing my son Vaughn is hell and I don't have the years left to ease this pain. His family can only deal with it hour by hour, and day by day. Nothing can describe this agony and gut wrenching pain caused by Vaughn’s horrific and tragic death.
A service to honor Vaughn's life will be held on Saturday, June 10th at 11:30am at Vogler Funeral & Cremations in Winston Salem.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Vaughn’s memory, to UNC Chapel Hill.
