It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Dr. Samy Iskandar, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Dr. Iskandar, aged 76, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife, three sons, three daughters-in-law, and sister, who were all by his side throughout his final moments.
Born on October 19th 1946 in Alexandria, Egypt to Samuel and Solange Iskandar, Samy Iskandar was destined to make a significant impact on the lives of those around him. With an unwavering thirst for knowledge and passion for medicine, he pursued his academic journey, earning both a medical degree from the University of Alexandria Faculty of Medicine and a PhD from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Iskandar dedicated his life to the pursuit of medical excellence. Having taught at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine for 29 years, he passed on his passion for patient care to generations of physicians.
Outside of his professional life, Samy Iskandar was a devoted family man. He shared a beautiful journey of love in Christ with his cherished wife, Laurice, who stood beside him throughout their nearly 36 years together. Their bond was a source of strength, and their unconditional love and commitment sustained them through life's triumphs and challenges. Dr. Iskandar was a loving father to his three sons, Christopher, Andrew, and John David, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. He embraced his role as a parent, instilling in his children the values of faith, integrity, and perseverance.
As a testament to his character, Dr. Samy Iskandar was a pillar of strength for his family, always providing guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support. He deeply cherished his role as a grandfather, relishing the precious moments spent with his granddaughter, Julia, who brought boundless joy and laughter into his life.
In addition to his family, Dr. Iskandar held a special place in the hearts of his friends and colleagues. His warm smile, kind words, and generous spirit endeared him to all who knew him. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel heard and valued, offering solace during difficult times and celebrating their successes with genuine enthusiasm.
While our hearts ache with the loss of Dr. Samy Iskandar, we find solace in the legacy he leaves behind. His devotion to Christ, boundless love for his family, and commitment to his patients will forever be etched in our memories. His life serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us to approach each day with compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference.
He is survived by his wife Laurice; three sons Christopher (Caroline), Andrew (Patricia), John (Maria); granddaughter Julia; two sisters Samia Spencer and Chadia Iskandar; and two nephews Sam and Mark Spencer; and many, many friends who loved him.
Family visitation will take place from 6-8pm at Archangel Michael and St. Philopateer Coptic Orthodox Church on Sunday May 28, 2023. Dr. Samy Iskandar's funeral service will be held at Archangel Michael and St. Philopateer Coptic Orthodox Church (4510 Shattalon Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27106) on May 29, 2023 at 12pm with the internment to follow immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Archangel Michael and St. Philopateer Coptic Orthodox Church in his honor.
