I'm terribly shocked and saddened to just now learn of Dr. Fisher's death from the Duke alumni magazine. Not just a fellow Blue Devil, he was my surgeon who rid me of a pernicious cancer. I could rely on him to give me information directly and without sugar coating, but it was his optimism and encouragement that saved me as much as his expert surgery. My sincere condolences to his family and to his colleagues.

I had the pleasure to meet Dr. Fisher in 2007 when I learned of my throat cancer. His professional approach to every aspect of situations helped me through my biggest challenge. I become close friends and invited Sam to Pine Valley Golf Club for 3 great days of golf and comradery. I will miss Sam......I just learned of his passing on my yearly check-up at Duke this week. I am shocked and devastated to learn that Sammy is gone. He was a special friend to me and I had looked forward to enjoying many more happy times with him. I know the family must be devastated by their loss. Prayers for the Fisher family.

I am so saddened to learn of the passing of this wonderful doctor. He was so funny, yet so comforting. I drove four hours one way to see him and was glad that I could. I always imagined if I had problems again that needed surgery, it would all be okay because he would be taking care of me. 
I pray that his family is comforted in some part in the knowledge that this man left his mark on the world in the most positive way. We grieve with you.

I just received a letter to inform me of his passing!  I really loved my visits with Dr. Fisher!  He really made me feel comfortable and I left with an understanding of what was wrong with me!  He will truly be missed!  RIP Dr. Fisher! I am praying for his family.

I live in Roxboro and just received  a letter telling me of Dr. Fisher's passing. I was so shocked. He was my doctor and I loved him. He was so kind and caring. I am so sorry for your lost. God be with you and comfort you.

I am saddened to hear of Dr. Fisher death.  He was my husband's doctor for the past 15 years.  He was a great man and I am honored to have had the pleasure of knowing him. I will never forget after my husband's surgery, he told me that the cancer was back, Needless to say, I feel to pieces but I will never forget Dr. Fisher putting his arm around me and telling me not to give up. I never told him how much that meant to me. He was a great man and I am thankful that I had the privilege to know him.

So sad to hear of his passing, he was a wonderful doctor and a very kind man.  He always made me feel at ease at my appointments with him and always made me laugh and smile.  He will be greatly missed.  My prayers are with his family.

Rest in pease.  My wife had her surgery done in early November what must of been one of his last surgeries.  Although I only met him a couple of times, he was so wonderful to us and I could tell he was a wonderful human being.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about Dr. Fisher. My heart goes out to the family. If not for this great man,I would not be here to write this. I was a patient since 1985 and always looked forward to my appointments because he always put me at ease for what would follow. I have always considered him a friend in addition to my doctor. I always held him in high regard and the world was a better place with him here. I will miss him greatly.

What a shock. Dr fisher called my Husband his Buddy. He has helped him in and out of four different cancers in six years . He will always be in our hearts we always told him how much we appreciated him and thanked him for everything he did for my Husband. He worked hard for others long hours was a  gifted  caring Doctor, rest in Peace Buddy. Gone  but never forgotten.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I was a patient of your dad for 33 years.  He performed many surgeries on me during that time.  Every visit I would ask to see pictures of each of you. To me you all grew up with my family, he was more than just a doctor, but a friend.  I know he is in a better place.  He was truly a wonderful man.

Dr. Fisher was not just my doctor he became a friend, a part of my family in someways.  He was one of those doctors that everyone would've been lucky to have when no one else would work to find answers he would ! he wouldn't stop until he would figure it out and he did.  I went into see you in the other day Dr. Fisher for  our appointment and didn't know you weren't there anymore. I cried the entire night because Little did you know all that time, caring you  showed me and help that you got me touched me in ways that you will never begin to imagine. I hope your family knows how proud you were of them!

I remember Sammy from kindergarten days through high school.  I was sad to learn of his death and I wish to send my respects to his family. I know he will be greatly missed.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Fisher's unexpected death.  He was a wonderful doctor.  Duke Otolaryngology has lost a very dedicated man.

My condolences to the family on your loss.  Dr. Fisher was amazing with my 91-year-old mother when she had cancer earlier this year. He was warm, funny, willing to spend time and answer questions, and was able to put my mom at ease during a terrifying time. The surgery was impressive--not sure anyone else could have done what he did and several Duke members said so--and then he said he was "just lucky"! In every interaction, we left talking about how wonderful he was, and we all feel the world has been diminished by his loss.  Rest in peace.

Sammy and I were classmates at Davidson and Duke Med School. I'll forever miss his great sense of humor.

We are deeply moved by his life of care and compassion. He operated on a young Duke undergrad earlier this year whom I brought to him as an emergency case. He fit the case in on a very busy schedule and graciously answered all of our questions.  He was a superb physician and was generous with his time and talent.  My prayers are for his family and colleagues whom he left behind.

My heart weeps for your loss.  I just recently met Dr.Fisher two months ago and only saw him twice within that time.  My first visit he was very comforting to me because of a prior experience I had a year ago.  He told me then he was going to take care of me and I was ok with that.  My second visit was about six weeks ago and he had that same wonderful personality and comforting spirit.  When his office called to reschedule my appoint for December 4th, I asked was something wrong and was informed that he was very ill. My heart was hurt.  It does not take a long time to become attached to someone in a short period of time.  I know when I go to my appointment in December, it will not be the same.  My prayer is that God will keep his family and friends in his loving care.  May Dr. Fisher Rest In Peace

I'm so sad for his loss. Dr Fisher is one of the best doctors I've ever known in my life. I was diagnosed with cancer and he operated on me with great confidence that everything would be ok. I was fortunate to have had surgery with him as he removed everything. I had to visit his office frequently and he always made me feel better.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Samuel Fisher.  I first visited Dr. Fisher in 1988 and for a period of five years frequented his office.  He performed five surgeries on my vocal cords and thanks to his precise, non-aggressive touch, I am still able to talk.  Through the course of this experience both my husband and I  learned to admire him as a surgeon as well as a friend.  Thank you Dr. Fisher for touching our lives and making them better.  God comfort and bless the family of Dr. Fisher.

I'll never forget Dr. Fisher's words, shortly after receiving the tough news that my wife was diagnosed with cancer at only 29 years old. "I'm sorry this has happened to you, but, we're going to fix it." He said this with such confidence and zeal that it put me at ease. I repeated them often, especially during days of wavering faith. And fix it he did. Only a few months have passed since the day we breathed that sigh of relief. His family knows that he made an impact on countless lives, but we wanted to share the impact he made on our own. We will mourn his loss not only as a man, but as a hero. Rest in peace, Dr. Fisher.

Sammy was a good friend and golf partner from my Duke days. He was a great surgeon and friend.   He will be greatly missed.

I recently had a melanoma removed from my head by Dr. Fisher. He did an outstanding job. Lymph nodes and margins were clear. My wife and I could tell Dr. Fisher was a man of faith and it showed in his interactions with his patients. I was so shocked to read this morning of Dr. Fisher's passing. He removed  a melanoma from my father's ear on October 22nd. Dr. Fisher did a beautiful job of reshaping my dad's ear after the excision. My family is very grateful to Dr. Fisher for taking such good care of my dad, and we are deeply sorry for the loss of such a gifted surgeon and fine man.

My heart is heavy ... RIP Sammy. Continuing prayers for the entire Fisher family.
