Norma Jean Cavanaugh Martin, age 90 of Winston Salem, North Carolina passed away peacefully at her home to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday February 17, 2024. She was born in Forsyth County on November 22, 1933 where she lived her entire life.
Norma and her late husband “Buck” Martin had a restaurant for years called Bucks Grill in Winston Salem. After closing the restaurant, Norma worked as a hostess for Hampton Inn and then became well known for being the Demo Supervisor for over 20 years at Sam’s Club in Winston-Salem. Norma was a member of the Moravian Church Community serving for over 30 years in various roles. She just recently became a member of the Church of God.
Those who knew her remember her as a sweet, caring and courageous woman who loved everyone she met along the way. She always had a sense of humor that made people laugh. Norma would start her morning every day with a cup of coffee and a grateful heart smiling that was a bright shining light to all around her. She would always be there to help anyone in need if she was able too. God, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life and she was given the nickname by her grandchildren as “Nanny the Great!” She had a love for flowers, cooking, listening to older country music, southern gospel music and occasional opera. She also loved spending time with her best friend of over 35 years, Deloris Stewart. They had great times together shopping, talking and sharing stories. Their nicknames for each other were Frick and Frack. Deloris was like family.
