Matthew George Smith

Matt had an Associate’s Degree from Forsyth Technical Community College. He graduated from Ronald Reagan High School in 2014. Matt swam every summer for Long Creek Swim Club and played soccer every fall and spring with Twin City Youth Soccer.

Matt was charming and stubborn. He had a passion for cars and was happiest behind the wheel driving. Matt was adventurous and bold when trying new things. He loved his family and friends, and was quick to give hugs and say “I love you.” Matt struggled with drug addiction and mental illness.

He is survived by his parents, David Smith and Lisa Stanley-Smith, and his brother, Nick; grandparents Richard and Marion Stanley and grandmother Annette Smith (Ike Drake); aunt and uncle, Tina and Mike Coleman and Matt’s cousins Laura Coleman Rierson (Brandon) and Michael Coleman; uncles, Kelly Smith and Jeff Poteat, and Matt’s cousins Johnny Poteat-Smith (Polly) and Jordan Poteat-Smith.

Matt was pre-deceased by his grandfather, David A Smith, great-grandmothers Rose Smith and Mozelle Dowd, and his godparents, George and Lorraine Carroll.

A funeral mass for Matthew will be held Friday, December 23, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Rd, Clemmons, NC.
