James was born in Rowan County on September 26, 1931 to the late Anderson Odell and Edna File Snider. He graduated from Appalachian State in business administration.
James proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in the Signal Corps and was stationed in Paris, France. Once he returned, James went on to work for RJ Reynolds Tobacco and RJ Reynolds Archer where he worked as a department manager and retired after 30 years. James was a member of Calvary Baptist, where his wife Nancy and he served faithfully together. When his beloved wife of 47 years passed away in 2000, he moved to The Villages, FL, where he danced almost nightly and enjoyed the Florida weather. As his health declined, he moved back to NC to be close to his children. He loved his family and his grandchildren were always a source of pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Speas Horne Snider, and sister, Ann Nails. He leaves behind his children, James “Jim” (Paige) Snider, Jr., Frances “Frankie” (Scott) Musser, Nancy (Bryan) McNeill, and David (Phoebe) Snider; grandchildren, Caleb (Elisa) Musser, Dana (Nathanael) Rains, Derek Musser, Kevin (Veronica) McNeill, Erin McNeill, Wesley Snider, and Ruby Ann Snider; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Nancy Arrants and Velma Swicegood.
