Gene was born on January 7, 1937 to the late Sam Kennedy and Essie Shaw Kennedy in Winston Salem. He worked with his brother as a brick mason.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy, traveling from California to the Philippines, to China.
He loved watching old western movies, especially those featuring Gene Autry. Gene looked forward to games of poker and rounds of golf with his friends. Gene was the most loyal friend. He always cared for those around him. He wanted to help everyone in any way he could. And he always did it with a smile on his face because Gene had the best sense of humor. He was always making his friends and family laugh.
Gene cherished his family. He leaves behind his daughter, Michelle McPeak; grandchildren, Jacob (Nicole) Hall and Jessica (Dylan) Carey; great grandchildren, Adrian Hall, Nic Hall, Oliver Hall, Leila Mills, and Atlas Carey; sister, Ann Beason; best friend, Marlene Clifton; and so many other friends and loved ones. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel Kennedy, James “Jim” Kennedy, Robert “Bob” Kennedy, and William Joseph “Joe” Kennedy; and wife, Lois Vipperman.
There will be a service honoring Gene’s life on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 1pm at Forsyth Memorial Park in the Gazebo.
