Edgar Mitchem

He was born on February 27, 1924, in Pageton, West Virginia to the late Arch and Dora (Greer) Mitchem.

Edgar was a true family man. He enjoyed spending time with family, sitting on the porch listening to country music, and having family cookouts. He especially enjoyed trips to Long John Silvers. Edgar loved watching Classic Westerns and War movies. He enjoyed scaring his grandkids with horror movies. Edgar was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII.

In addition to his parents, Edgar was preceded in death by his sons, Donald and Robert Mitchem, daughter, Lisa Jane Mitchem, son-in-law, Federick Hobson, brothers, Roy (wife Francine) Mitchem, Richard (wife Ruby) Mitchem, and Mac (wife Brenda) Mitchem, sisters, Elise Johnson and Ethel Anderson, sister-in-law, Mildred Mitchem, nephews, Ricky and Tommy Mitchem, grandson, Christopher Allen Hobson, and great-great-grandson, Grayson Hoover.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 74 years, Sarah Jane (Null) Mitchem; daughters, Patricia (husband Ross) Runge and Debra Hobson; grandsons, Michael Paul Hobson, David Lee Sponaugle, Shaun Dale Hobson, and Justin Kendall Runge; granddaughters, Margaret Jane Rimes and Denna Marie Mitchem; brother, James Mitchem; great-grandchildren, Blake Alan Thompson, Brianna Rose Rimes, Logan Joseph Michael Martin, Morgann McKenzie Cruz, Marcus Elliott Rimes, Caden Tyler Martin, Regan Ariana Rimes, Carly Belle Michelle, and Maddison Jade Hathway; great-great-grandchildren, Toby Hoover, Kinslee Hoover, Adalynn Chevelle Thompson, Cash Logan Joseph Martin, Lukah Kai Cruz, and Grayson Brooks Martin; special long-time friends, Larry Lynville and Jimmy Barker.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at Vogler Funeral and Cremations @ Forsyth Memorial Park, 3815 Yadkinville Road, Winston-Salem, NC at 2:00PM, with Pastor Allen Boggs officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow, with military honors, at Forsyth Memorial Park.
