She was born in Winston-Salem on March 17, 1932, to Richard H. Creed, Sr., and Gussie W. (Creed) Thompson and graduated from Griffith High School in 1950. She was a charter member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the B.A. Culp Class and served the church faithfully. She baked the most delicious cakes, loved hosting holiday gatherings for her family, enjoyed trips to the beach with family & friends, and spent many hours visiting the shut-ins from her church. Having previously worked at Davis Department Store, she took early retirement from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in the late ‘80’s after many years of dedicated service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Gene P. Walker, Sr.; her brothers, Richard and “Sonny”; and her sister, Jean C. Hartman.
Surviving are a daughter, Sheila Padgett and husband Nick of Monroe, NC; a son, Gene Paul Walker, Jr. and wife Suzanne of Winston-Salem; grandsons, Joe Collins and wife Brandi of Salisbury, Wilson Walker and wife Sherri of Advance, Ryan Walker and wife Abby of Lewisville; three great-grandchildren; and many beloved nephews & nieces.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, November 25th at 2:00PM in the Chapel at Vogler Funeral and Cremations @ Forsyth Memorial Park, 3815 Yadkinville Road, Winston-Salem, NC, with Rev. Ben Sloan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dewilla’s memory to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
The Walker family wishes to express special love and appreciation to our dear friend and angel here on earth, Elaine Snapp. We also wish to thank the staff at Clemmons Village Assisted Living Facility for treating our mother with such great kindness while she was in their care and the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for guiding our mother and us gently through our final days together.
