David was born in Cabell County, West Virginia on April 25, 1944 to the late Algia Clay and Patricia Midkiff Clay.
At the age of 20, he enlisted in the United States Navy. David proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. During his service from 1964 to 1968, David received the: Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal (with one bronze star).
David worked as a firefighter for a few years in Pinellas County, Florida before earning his degree. He received a Bachelor of Science for engineering from the University Of Florida in Gainesville. David worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in Florida and North Carolina.
He leaves behind his wife, Phyllis Farmelo Clay; children, Barbara Clay and Patricia Clay (Robert) Aaron; grandson, Clay Pasquale Aaron; siblings, Pete Clay and Patricia McClellan; as well as many other loved ones and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Clay.
A celebration of David’s life will take place on Saturday, November 18th at 11 AM at Vogler Funeral & Cremations.
To honor David’s love of animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to your local humane society, animal shelter or Carolina Wildlife Sanctuary.
