Mrs. Betsy Richardson Ripple, 81, formerly of Winston-Salem, and currently residing in Statesville, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 after a lengthy illness at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. She was born in Winston-Salem on September 7, 1930 to Colon Arthur and Lucille Snow Richardson. After graduating from Elkin High school, she received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a social worker with the Department of Social Services and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for several years. She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem where she served as President of the United Methodist Women. Additionally, she was a member of the Garden Study Club and several bridge clubs. In 2008, she moved to Statesville to be near her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Clay Ripple, Jr. to whom she was married for 42 years. She is survived by her daughter, Alyson Ripple McCall and husband, Duncan McCall; grandson, Alexander Clay McCall all of Statesville; and sister, Susan Flynt and husband Miner Flynt of Elkin, NC. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Forsyth Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church Missionary Friendship Fund, P.O. Box 658, Winston-Salem, NC 27102 or to the Broad Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 169, Statesville, NC 28687. In addition, a special thank you is extended to the entire staff at Iredell Memorial Hospital, especially the skilled nursing unit for their dedicated and compassionate care.
