Anita Kay Wishon Cheek, 70, of Winston-Salem died peacefully on December 18th after a sudden illness. Anita was the only child born to Lucille and Bill Wishon. She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School, class of 1970. She was a graduate of the Respiratory Therapy Program at Forsyth Technical Community College and earned the national credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist. She worked the majority of her career at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Anita was a kind, caring therapist. She found her greatest joy in her career when she worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She provided excellent care to these sick babies and provided support to the families. She was a great team member as she worked along the nurses and physicians caring for these special patients.
Anita was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She demonstrated her Christian beliefs as she lived out her life. She was always kind and continually put the needs of others above those of herself. She truly loved others unconditionally. Anita had a strong circle of friends who became her family. Although she did not have any children of her own, she loved the children of her friends as though they were her own. She was a “doting Nina” to Meredith Essick Gomez, Allison Reese Barham, Stuart Reese, Arizona Hall, and Trinity Hall.
Anita was full of joy and always had a great laugh. She was a great party planner. She loved to cook. She shared her gift of cooking at work and family gatherings. She was an amazing bow-maker. Her wrapped gifts were a work of art! Many little girls in the area grew up wearing hair-bows designed by Anita. She had a knack for making gift baskets and lovingly made and donated them for special events.
Anita grew up in Olivet Moravian Church. She was a founding member of Sunrise United Methodist Church. She regularly attended church and participated in many Bible study groups as well.
Those of us who were fortunate to be her “family” were blessed she was a part of our lives. Her loving legacy will live in our hearts forever. Her funeral is to be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2pm at Olivet Moravian Church.
