The family and friends of William (Bill) Sutherland regret to announce his death on July 9, 2015.
Bill was predeceased by parents Robert and Mary Sutherland, twin brother Robert in infancy, brother Graham in infancy and cousins Wilson McPherson Hutchison and Jacoba Hutchison.
Affectionately known uncle Bill, he is survived by his second cousins Laurie Ann Vanderhorst, Coraleen Hutchison, Charlene Hutchison, George (Marie) Hutchison and numerous third and fourth cousins.
Bill lived in his family home on Chandos Avenue in Norwood for eighty-two years. He attended Tache and Norwood Collegiate schools.
Bill was a devout member of Norwood Presbyterian Church where he served as Secretary Treasurer of the Board of Managers, a Scout leader and a very active member in the young people’s group. He later served as an Elder, was President of the Church Auxiliary and a very dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church.
Bill served in the R.C.A.F. for three and a half years during the Second World War. He later retired from Deloitte, Haskins, Sells C.A. Firm as Office Accountant in 1987.
Bill developed several hobbies and was noted for baking delicious Scottish shortbread. He was an expert flower gardener and decorated his beloved church sanctuaries with season floral displays at Christmas and Easter.
Bill was an avid traveler and photographer. He especially liked to visit Britain and Western Europe. Bill embarked on cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean and South America. During his later years Bill took many bus trips in Canada and the United States.
Bill was a man of high integrity, a loyal and caring person towards his extended family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian/St. James Church, 61 Picardy Place. The church is located just off Portage Avenue, across from Vimy Ridge Park. The Reverend Kevin MacDonald will be officiating. Guests are invited to a luncheon at the church following the service. Interment will take place on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the family plot at Brookside Cemetery.

Bill’s many friends at Fort Garry Place were such an integral part of his life over the past eleven years. Thank you for your kindness and supportive care.
