Wallace (Wally) Taylor

1926-2011

Wally passed away peacefully with his loved ones at his side at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Feryne, and his three children Maureen (Paul), West Kelowna, Susan, Kelowna, and Skip (Karen), Winnipeg, and five granddaughters Sarah (Dave), Aidan, Ebony, Natalie, and Melissa, along with brother in law Scotty, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his dear mom-in-law Margaret Locke, sisters in law Shirley and Mildred, and brother in law Geordie.

Wally was born on June 30, 1926 in Winnipeg but grew up in Dominion City under the loving guidance of his dear Auntie Annie Waddell. His passion for fixing and repairing things started at an early age, along with his fondness for the piano. Starting lessons as a young man, Wally displayed an exceptional musicianship and played the piano beautifully. He joined the Canadian Navy at age 17 and served overseas in World War II on aircraft carriers and on the converted ‘RMS Aquitania’ ship. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Feryne Locke, and they were wed on July 12, 1952. They lived in Windsor Park from 1955 on. Achieving plant supervisor positions, he worked diligently for Carter Temro, Electrolier and Bristol Aerospace as a Civil Engineer.

Wally’s family was his life and he instilled his integrity, love and dedication in his children. As a craftsman, Wally built his family a large travel trailer and enjoyed many summers camping at Falcon Lake, Clear Lake and across the prairies to Penticton, BC. A highlight of Wally and Feryne’s life together was their cross Canada adventure with Mildred and Geordie in 1978.

A true gentle man, Wally’s soft-spoken good nature was a reflection of his unselfish kindness which permeated every part of his being. With a fun sense of humour, he loved teasing his grandkids who brought so much joy to his life. Always easy going, he was modest and never sought praise. Wally was truly an honourable man and will be deeply missed.

A service of thanksgiving celebrating the life of Wally Taylor was held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB. The family thanks the staff of Deer Lodge for their care for Wally. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntington Society of Canada.
