It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Gail Lagimodiere with family at her side, on Sunday September 17, 2023, age 65, at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Val was born in The Pas, Manitoba to Maurice and Violet Lagimodiere on December 6, 1957. She lived her entire life in The Pas, only having moved to Winnipeg this past October 2022.
Val was predeceased by; her parents, Maurice and Violet, her brother, Gregory, and her nephew Blair Murray. She is survived by her sisters; Maureen (Bob), Judi (Gerald), Leslie (Barry) and brother, Mark (Fawn). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephew; Michelle (Jason) Mailhot, Jillian (Kyle) Sephton, Drew (Robin) Nelson, Megan (Bricker) Lagimodiere Bastian, Nicole Hiebert (Josh), Marleea (Aaron) Potter and Shea Lagimodiere; great-nieces and great-nephews Ainsley and Owen Sephton, Sutter and Blair Nelson, and Claire Potter.
Valerie was all about family. She was affectionately called, “Auntie Val the kiddie’s pal”. She always made time for her nieces and nephews, looking forward to updates about what was going on in their lives.
Val loved yard work and took much pride in caring for the lawn at the lake. As a family, we are grateful to Val who stepped in to be, “Mini Moe”, filling dad’s shoes to ensure that mom could maintain her cabin and home for 25 years. Val was mom’s personal chauffeur.
Val was a numbers gal. She was quick with mathematics, and therefore it was not surprising that she pursued a career in bookkeeping. Val spent the bulk of her career doing accounting and payroll for the General Motors dealership in The Pas. She took great pride in her work, and her achievements through General Motors University. In later years, Val brought her financial talents to the rectory office of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Parish in The Pas.
Val’s favorite pastime was games. She loved Trivia, Minute Mysteries and various board games like Scrabble, however, she was most passionate about Canasta and cards in general. She was an extremely competitive person, who didn’t lose lightly. Being a problem solver, Val enjoyed building a complicated puzzle to pass the northern Manitoba winter months.
Music was one of Val’s passions. She played the piano by ear, and growing up had every vinyl 45 LP to keep us entertained. Val loved technology and purchased a lifetime subscription to Sirius XM when it was first introduced. She spent countless hours on her iPad, scrolling through updates on Facebook and enjoyed playing games on this device as well.
Val was known for her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She had an answer for everything, often keeping the family in stitches. Val was kind hearted and loyal. She had a very strong faith, which helped her navigate many difficult times in her life. Her spirituality was her guidepost, which provided her comfort and allowed her to persevere.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of the CancerCare Manitoba, as well as the care team at the Riverview Health Centre, where she spent her final days.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 am, at Thompson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg Manitoba. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, at a later date.
