Katie is survived by her spouse Josef, of 24 years, her sons Trevor and Russell Unger (April), and stepdaughter Elaine, as well as her loving grandchildren Shelbea, Trustan, and Samantha.
She is predeceased by her sister Margaret (Andy). She will be greatly missed by her many siblings Neil (Loretta), David (Margaret), Anna, John (Mary), Sadie (Ed), Mary (Dave), Nellie (Bill), Helen (Bill), Jacob, Nettie (Pete) and the many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Katie was born in Winkler, MB on September 26, 1947 where she grew into a beautiful young lady. For a short time she lived in St. Catherine’s, ONT until she took up final residence in Oak Bluff, MB in 1972 to raise her two boys. She was very involved in the community, as she was part of the volunteer ambulance, palliative care and coaching baseball. When not hard at work with water delivery or at the art gallery, she delivered Meals on Wheels. In 1989 she met Josef and they began their life together. As entrepreneurs they were involved in the trucking industry, Red Oak Gallery, and KC’S Drive-In. Together they grew a successful life that allowed for travelling to many destinations. Katie always made time to help those she loved with open arms and a big heart.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, at 10:00 am with a viewing to start at 9:30 am. Followed by a service at Oak Bluff Cemetery and a gathering afterwards at Oak Bluff Recreation Centre.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Carmen Memorial Hospital for all their help, comfort and care. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
