With heavy hearts, yet with the joy of knowing that she is at peace, the family shares the news that our step-mother Susan passed away peacefully the evening of December 22, 2023 at Calvary Place Personal Care Home, one month short of her 102nd birthday.
Susan is survived by her three step-children: Henry Dyck, Linda Dyck (Selwyn Bullock) and Helen Law (Brian) and step-granddaughter Janelle Dabisza (Rob). Also left to mourn are her brother Pete Giesbrecht (Anne), sisters Nettie Voth and Hilda Dueck (John) and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents Martin and Cornelia Giesbrecht, her brothers Abe and Gordon Giesbrecht and sisters Mary and Nora Giesbrecht. She was also predeceased by her husband Pete Dyck.
Susan was born on a farm in the Eigenhof district near Gretna, MB. She was the eldest of 8 siblings and very quickly learned the meaning of hard work. She moved to Winnipeg and worked in the textile industry as well as doing housekeeping. She purchased two rooming houses which she maintained for many years. Her ambition led her to take up a career in hairdressing which she practiced until age 74.
In her later years she married Pete Dyck and moved to Sanford, MB to make a home with him and her three step-children. She became an active member of this community participating in many organizations and making many new friends. Later on, they moved to Winnipeg and Susan became active in Bethel Mennonite Church.
Susan lost her husband in 1994. She continued to live in their home until 2007 when she moved to Lindenwood Terrace living there for 12 years.
She enjoyed travelling, gardening and family gatherings. Susan was a very generous person always ready to help.
The family is grateful to all the staff at Calvary Place for their loving care given to Susan over the last four years. We also want to thank Marjorie Sawatzky for her monthly visits.
