In loving memory of Sheila Williams

It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Sheila Williams (Antoshko) at the age of 54 on September 3, 2023 at the Health Science Centre surrounded by her loving family.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Glen, step sons Shawn, Brett, and Robin, mother Amelia Antoshko, brother Bryan and wife Janet (Allard) and their children, Matthew (nephew) and Madison (niece), and so many friends that were so dear to her. Sheila was predeceased by her father Fred and her mother in law Sheila.

Sheila was born on September 19, 1968 in Dauphin, MB to parents Fred and Amelia Antoshko. Throughout her younger years, Sheila loved being a big part of her Ukrainian Heritage and danced for Zirka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Her gift of music allowed her to excel at playing the violin and went to many performances throughout the years. After graduating high school, Sheila moved to Winnipeg where she earned her Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy degree. Since 1990, Sheila has built an incredible career and business. Her path started at the Victoria General Hospital, then onto Markham Physiotherapy, then becoming a co-owner at Whyte Ridge Physiotherapy. She finally settled on her dream, owning her own company, Markham Physiotherapy Clinic. Sheila pursued excellence in her field which led her to become the Director of Education Administration for Acupuncture Canada since 2005. Sheila’s intelligence, passion and drive for helping others made a positive impact on the lives of countless patients, students and friends.

On September 5, 2003, Sheila married the love of her life, Glen Williams and embraced her step sons Shawn, Brett and Robin as her own. For almost 20 years, Sheila’s marriage to Glen was a match made in heaven. It was always full of laughter and adventure, whether in the RV driving to Alberta to see their boys, or Dauphin to celebrate the holidays with family, heading to Phoenix or entertaining friends and family.

Sheila was a special daughter to her mother, Amy. She loved travelling to Dauphin to help her mom and dad plant and harvest the garden. Sheila always enjoyed and never missed travelling to be with her family on all the holidays, spending hours in the kitchen with her mother. Family was extremely important to Sheila and spending time with her mother meant the world to her. Sheila adored her only niece and nephew, Madison and Matthew, and was so proud of them as they were going off to University this year. She spoiled them and was so present with every visit. Watching them grow up was a gift and she embraced every minute.

Sheila’s love for animals brought her immense joy. Her kindness led her to her dog Daisy, rescuing her when no one else saw her potential. Sheila had a special bond with her horse, Enya. One of her greatest joys was owning, caring for and riding Enya.

Sheila loved to be around the action. She was an avid mountain biker and hiker in Arizona where she made her second home with Glen. Sheila was a powerful athlete who enjoyed hiking, walking, playing pickle ball and golf, often leading the pack.

Sheila’s kindness, compassion, and dedication to her family, friends, and patients will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her calmness was apparent when she entered a room. You knew everything was going to be ok, she was always there and in control. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and care will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In her final selfless act, Sheila chose to be an organ donor, giving the gift of life to several others. Her generosity even in her last days reflects what we all know to be true. We were all lucky to be a part of her life, albeit too short.

Due to the tragic circumstances regarding her passing, there will be a graveside service for immediate family only, followed by a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Sheila would appreciate donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.
