Peacefully, and surrounded by her loving family, Sharon passed on July 26th, at the age of 65.
She will be dearly missed by her children Peter (Krista), Tracey, Karli (Re), Nicole (Steve), grandchildren Logan, Eboshiogwe, Okhai, Omoepe, Izekhumeh, Éire, and Lennon, as well as her mother Helene, and brothers Patrick (Brenda), Brian, and Michael (Raquel). She was predeceased by her husband Rod, with whom she is now reunited.
Sharon was born to Edward and Helene McShane on November 18th, 1956, and by all accounts enjoyed a happy and healthy childhood. Growing up, she was always very active, with a particular affinity for swimming that culminated in her being a lifeguard for many summers. At sixteen, she travelled to Ottawa to compete in the Canadian National Rowing Championship. She also spent considerable time doting over her 3 younger brothers, whom she adored. Her fun-loving personality and quick wit made her many fast friends, some she would remain very close with throughout the course of her life.
She graduated from Dakota Collegiate and the University of Manitoba, earning Bachelor's degrees in both Science and Commerce, and attaining a Chartered Accountant designation. Sharon rose very quickly from the outset of her career, and was employed in a managerial role for most of the positions she held over the years. She brought her expertise in accounting to a variety of industries in both the public and private sectors, and was always looking to undertake new challenges and hone new skills.
In her retirement, Sharon loved to travel and volunteer. She was open to all manner of excursion, boarding several cruises around Europe and the Americas, as well as wintering in many unique locales of the American Southwest. Agencies she dedicated her time to include Church of the Rock, Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue, and Lighthouse Mission. Her golden years also saw her eagerly take up a number of hobbies that were entirely new to her, such as jewelry making and metal detecting. As before her retirement, she remained devoted to her garden, sewing, and exploring the newest developments in home technology. Most importantly, as much time as possible was spent with beloved children, grandchildren, and the rest of her family.
A celebration of Sharon's rich and wonderful life will take place on August 9th, 1pm at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place.
A great deal of gratitude is owed to Dr. Popowich at St. Boniface Hospital, and the Palliative Care staff at Riverview Health Centre, who went above and beyond to make Sharon and her family comfortable in the closing days of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sharon's name to Lighthouse Mission, CancerCare, and The Winnipeg Humane Society.
