Left to honour Robert’s name are his six children: Connie (Dave), Kathy (Curt), Heather, David (Irene), Bob (Patricia), and Tammy-Jo (Lauris). Robert will also be lovingly missed by his fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Robert was predeceased in 2013, by Ruth, his wife of 59 years, his grandson, Bobby, in 2012, and son-in-law, Myron, in 1992.
Robert was born in Winnipeg on October 24, 1924. Albert Beach was the family’s summer home and the location of the family business. Later, Stead, Manitoba, became home and their busy life on the farm began.
Robert met his wife-to-be, Ruth Adams, originally from Pinkham, Saskatchewan, while she was nursing at the Misericordia Hospital. They married in 1953, and moved to the Stead area, farming from then on; clearing land, growing many crops, including sod, raising livestock, and also raising their family of six children. Ruth was often called upon to use her considerable nursing skill to deliver babies, respond to emergencies and provide advice on health and illnesses. In their later years, Ruth and Robert visited Arizona, Alaska, and the East coast, often accompanied by Tammy, or “Puddin,” as they affectionately called her.
For the past three years, Robert lived in Sunnywood Manor at Pine Falls, Manitoba, where he was well liked by both residents and staff who went out of their way to make him feel “at home.” We thank the staff for their excellent care during his time there. We also wish to thank Dr. C. Ota and the staff at the Pine Falls Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Robert.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment and service for both Ruth and Robert will follow.
In Robert’s memory, donations may be made to Sunnywood Resident Council, Box 2000, Pine Falls, Manitoba R0E 1M0
