It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Robert (Bob) Barry Hasell, who passed away at the age of 82.
Born on January 29th, 1942, in Fort William, Ontario, the third child of Rhoda and James Hasell. At age four, his family relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Bob would live for more than two-thirds of his life. Shortly after graduating from St. James Collegiate, Bob began working for Canadian National (CN) Railway, where he would work for almost half his life, taking great pride in his work and forging lifelong friendships. Steady employment impressed the father of Carolyne (Lyne) Pearn so much that he gave his blessing for the two to be married on April 29th, 1967. They embraced life's journey together, moving to several homes, including an 18-year stint in Edmonton, Alberta, before returning to Winnipeg in 1990 with their four cherished sons. Bob was active in his children's lives, rushing home from work every night to drive some kid somewhere. He coached all of his own children, their friends, and the other neighbourhood kids in soccer, baseball, and hockey (even though the man could barely skate).
Bob brought warmth and generosity to everyone he met. His legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. To know him meant you knew how to make a rum & coke, the smell of a Colt's cigar, and how to smile and laugh.
Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Lyne; their children Jim, Jason (Janice), Ryan (Eva), and Chris (Marla); and his adored grandchildren Jarod, Jacob, Reece, Cayleigh, Dane, Brady, and Emmet. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Walmsley, brothers Bruce (Doris) and Douglas, five nephews, a niece, and countless friends and neighbours.
Bob is reunited in peace with those who predeceased him: his parents, Rhoda and James Hasell; his father-in-law, James Pearn; his mother-in-law, Vivian Pearn; his brother-in-law, Ken Pearn; and his sister-in-law, Karen Olcen.
A Funeral Service for Bob will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 8th at Thomson “In The Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. To view the service online, click the "Join Livestream" button below.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Bob's remarkable life, sharing memories of a man whose presence made the world a better place.
Bob's life was a testament to love, loyalty, and strength. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
