He was predeceased by his first wife Eileen (nee Olson), daughter Lynn Paulhus, and mother Mary Smith.
He is survived by Maria (nee Lannoo) his loving wife of 29 years. Also by his daughter Deanne Irwin (Tom), son Gary Anderson (Lisa), and son-in-law Brett Paulhus, grandchildren David, Robert and Jordan Heavysege; his twin sister Shirley Walker, brother Robert Smith, his special niece Christy, and many relatives and friends.
Bob was born in Winnipeg on May 27, 1932. His youth was spent on the farm in Fannystelle where many lifelong friendships were made. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was especially proud of his three grandsons. Bob worked at Winnipeg Transit for 35 years until his retirement as chief inspector in 1993. He was an avid reader, and loved cooking and 'creating' his much-loved barbecued roasts. He was an excellent gardener and found great pleasure with his lily collection. Bob always had a smile on his face, especially when on his riding mower, his yard racecar! He boasted of his great fishing prowess, especially with his fishing buddies on their annual fly-in fishing trip. Bob was the 'big one that got away'!
A very special time in his life was in 1989 when he was reunited with his birth mother, twin sister and a brother. Bob enjoyed many friends and relatives who made his life interesting and so much fun -- and you know who you are -- including co-workers, fishermen, football fans, card players in Palm Springs, Dakota shufflers and floor curlers.
Our lives will never be the same, as we have lost a husband, father, grandfather and friend who kept us laughing with his quick wit and sense of humor.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy’s Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road.
We extend our sincere appreciation for all the excellent, compassionate WRHA home care during Bob's last week.
