Richard Appolo Bristol, aka Sunny, aka Brother B, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the age of 95, in Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana on November 4, 1926, to Mercy Fowler and Joe Macey. Richard started his trade alongside his father repairing furniture and later became a cabinetmaker. Before immigrating to Canada, he had a 25-year career with Demba/Guymine Mining Company as a millwright. Following his migration to Winnipeg, he worked for Dominion Tanners for 20 years before retirement.
Some of Richard’s hobbies included: woodwork, mechanical and electrical repairs. One does not have to look far to see his work, both his apartment and home in Guyana reflected his craftsmanship.
Richard, a long-time resident of 19 Pipeline Rd, is remembered as the beloved husband of the late Maryllia Mingo-Bristol, and the late Dorothy Bristol; his sister Agatha; father of Claude, Richard Jnr, Ian, Trevor, Terrence, Alice, Godwin, Valerie, Janice, Rebbie, and the late George Bristol and Carol Carter; grandfather of Claude Jnr, Raymond, Allan, Denise, Dwayne, Anton, Samantha, Holly-Anne, Alaistain, Taylor, Tawsha, Tanisha, Tyreese, and Aiden; great-grandfather of Harmony, Raymond (Jr.), Royce, Allan (Jr.), Janae, Jayla, Denoila, Savannah, Zaria, Kaleigh, Malik, Sydney, and TJ; great-great-grandfather of Denyque; and of course many dear relatives and friends in Canada, USA, Guyana, and other countries.
Richard will be remembered for his cool collectiveness and his quiet sense of humor. He was very helpful to many after his retirement at the age of 75 years, helping neighbors and friends move to their new locations. For his family, his record-keeping skills were unmatched such as keeping and remembering birthdays, important dates, documents, addresses that they thought were lost forever. Very religious, his faith was strong through the challenges of life.
The family would like to thank Dr. Smelsky and the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital and Grace Hospital for their care and attention.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 1:30 pm, at 1291 McGillivray Blvd, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm. A reception will immediately follow after the burial at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home.
