He is survived by sons Peter and Robert (Sandi Martin), grandsons Brayden (Ali Everitt) and Scott (Sarah Taylor), great-granddaughter Rowan and great-grandson Everitt, and niece Lisa Raffoul (Lou, Adam and Aaron).
He also leaves sisters-in-law Marion Kirkland, Patricia Zapisocki, Martha Brown, Mary McIntosh, and will be missed by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Dad was predeceased by his cherished wife of 48 years Helen, his parents Leon and Frances Sywy, his sister Jean and brother-in-law Joe Nagy, his great-nephew Eric Raffoul, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Lena and Peter Komarnicki, his brothers-in-law Malcolm Kirkland, Peter Komarnicki, Walter Zapisocki and Robert Brown, and his life-long boyhood friend Walter Welychka and his wife Martha Look.
Dad grew up in Winnipeg’s North End. He retired from his 47-year employment with the Canadian Pacific Railway Car Department in 1994. Mom and Dad took numerous holidays to Europe, Australia, New York City, Florida, California and Arizona and enjoyed square dancing, but they mostly enjoyed times at home in Winnipeg with friends and family, especially their young grandsons.
Special thanks and appreciation to dear friends Diane Freeman, Marie Vanderstoel, Leona Lazarenko, Ed and Ann Podaima, Walter and Roselle Tataryn, the late Steve Romas, and good neighbour Alice Fiebelkorn, who all kept Dad in their thoughts and deeds over the years, especially after Mom passed in 2002. Also, thanks to Klassen Funeral Home.
At Dad’s request, cremation has taken place and no service will be held. If so desired, donations in his memory can be made to Transplant Manitoba Gift of Life, Tissue Bank Manitoba, Red Cross Canada, Salvation Army, Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
