Early Wednesday morning, May 9, 2012, Peter won his most important battle that he fought here on earth. He won the battle to live eternally with Jesus Christ, his King. He fell asleep gently without a struggle.
Peter will be remembered by his wife Nettie, his children, Irene, Garry, Evelyn and Abe, Elmer and Elfrieda, Susie, Lorna and Gary, Dave and Janet, Leonard and Christine, and Peter Jr. Twenty nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren are also part of his growing legacy.
He was predeceased by Peter Giesbrecht, his son- in- law.
Peter was born on December 28, 1930 in the R.M. of Hanover. The eldest child in a long line, he was born with the personality of a lion and a hidden heart of love. An intelligent man, he worked manually his whole life to feed the large family he was blessed with.
In character, he was dedicated and diligent. All of his employers were privileged to have him on staff. He took pride in his work and, in keeping with his personality; he did the lion’s share of work every day. He could be quoted as saying, “I can produce twice as much work as men half my age”.
Peter suffered many physical ailments in his long life but God was faithful to him in miraculous ways, bringing him through some very difficult trials.
In the last year and a half when Nettie went to live at Oakview Place, Peter visited her regularly showing his love for her with this dedication even though his health was failing greatly.
Peter’s confession the night before he died was Romans 7:15… “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate”.
This humility cleared the path for the Author of Peter’s faith to help him finish his journey with the greatest dignity and the purest mercy.
A man who attended church every Sunday, he leaves this example for his family to follow. We, his family will endeavor to embrace the words on a little plaque that hung on the wall of Peter and Nettie’s home, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday May 18, 2012 in the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment to follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
