She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Leslie Stewart, in 2012.
She is survived by her children Anne (Brian), Bob (Leslie), Dave (Joy) and Janet; grandchildren Erin (Clayton), Lindsay (Paul), Tyler (Crystal), Dustin (Leah), Ryan, Angel and Adam; and great grandchildren Makenzie, Kiera, Drew, Carter and Harper.
Mom was born and raised in Quebec City where she played as a child on the Plains of Abraham. She subsequently moved to Montreal where she and Les began their family and moved to Winnipeg in 1962.
Our parents raised their family in Windsor Park and Southdale where they were active members and volunteers with St. Bernadette Parish. Mom enjoyed curling and bridge nights and both our parents were avid golfers and long time members of Elmhurst golf club. For several winters, they migrated south to Destin, Florida where they participated in the local golfing and snowbird community. In retirement, our parents moved to northeast Winnipeg where they developed many new friendships and Mom was an active member of Good Neighbours Senior Centre. She especially enjoyed getting together for lunch, golf outings and the periodic bus excursion to South Beach Casino to play her favoured VLT’s.
More recently, Mom enjoyed making new friendships and participating in outings and social events at Lindenwood Terrace. She was a regular working on jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and bingo, volunteering with local school children, helping to organize the New Year’s Eve party and discussing world affairs, sports and other topics at afternoon tea. We are appreciative of the kindness of the staff and tenants of Lindenwood Terrace for the caring and engaging environment they create.
Mom took pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. The addition of great grandchildren added great joy to her life. She especially enjoyed getting together with her family for lunch and dinners, to play cards and games and visit at the cottage.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
