With great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Mary at Concordia Hospital on July 21, 2020.
She was predeceased by husband Ernest (2012) and sister Ann (2019). Survived by her children Daniel and Donna; granddaughter Alexandra; sisters Katie Werner, Rose Poschadel and Mike Konert (Debbie).
Born in Transylvania province, Romania on July 27, 1928. Her teen years were cut short by WWII when the family had to leave. A number of years were spent in post war Europe until immigrating to Canada with sister Katie. She worked in Langenburg, Saskatchewan for a doctor’s family. Both made their way to Winnipeg, eventually meeting the rest of the family. While living in a boarding house she met her future husband Ernest, to marry on December 1, 1953. They moved to Elmwood to raise their two children. She began working for Nutty Club, but a tragic accident took her arm. On retiring, they travelled Manitoba lakes and parks for years. They enjoyed their cottage at Patricia Beach. Her greatest joy was helping raise her granddaughter.
After Ernie’s passing in 2012, she moved into Concordia Village Assisted Living where she blossomed. Her energy and competitive spirit touched many. A very special thank you to her close friend, Lester.
We would like to thank Dr. Thomas, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Hall, Laurie and all the staff on 1 North A. Also thank you to Concordia Village residents, staff, and Chaplain Dueck.
Mary’s biggest regret was not being able to get an education. Her intelligence, drive and unyielding spirit will be missed.
Memorial donations may be made to Concordia Foundation, Winnipeg.
