Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Arwen Long (Calgary) granddaughter Sarah MaryJane Long (Nanaimo) and son Michael Long (Winnipeg). She is also survived by her sisters Barbra Teskey (David) of Winnipeg and Catherine Chlopecki (Rick) of Gimli. And the girls, nieces Josephine, Sandra, Jennifer, and Tricia.
She is predeceased by her mother Florence Lane and father George Teskey.
Mary Jane was born in Edmonton, Alberta and then spent her early years living with Auntie Violet and Uncle Bud Timlick as well as Auntie Margaret Partington and family.
She spent the remainder of her childhood and teenage years on Ferndale Avenue in Norwood, Winnipeg with her mother, stepfather, and sisters.
She enjoyed heading out to Kenora with her cousin Beverley Norlene, Auntie Margaret, and Uncle Roy Broad to spend fun-filled weekends on the island.
She married Richard Long in 1969 and proceeded to live in Toronto, St John’s NFLD and Ottawa finally returning to Winnipeg with Arwen and Michael in tow.
Mom spent the next 20 years taking care of her family before returning to the work force for 10 years until retiring at 65. She enjoyed her time back in the office and won several sales awards.
Mom enjoyed cooking favorite meals, tending to the garden, and mailing handwritten letters including Winnipeg Free Press clippings to keep her daughter Arwen up to date on family news and activities going on in Winnipeg.
Mom lived and died as she wanted.
“Somewhere beyond right and wrong, there is a garden. I will meet you there.”
