It is with profound sadness that family and friends of MaryAnne Carter-Squire announce her passing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on August 13, 2024, at the age of 62 years. MaryAnne was recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, an aggressive, rare cancer. Throughout her brief yet brave cancer journey, MaryAnne maintained the mindset of “you just keep on going”- a phrase her parents used when faced with difficult circumstances.
MaryAnne was born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, on November 25th, 1961, to Peter and Leda (Slyziuk) Musey.
Left with many fond memories, MaryAnne is survived by her daughter, Mikayla; her sister, Suzanne (Calvin); Godfather and Uncle, Eddie; stepdaughter, Lynne, and her daughter Emily, and very near and dear friends Bella, Chloe, Carol, Dannielle, Jill, Mark, and Robyn.
MaryAnne valued family tradition, togetherness, and generosity. She had a strong commitment and dedication to the people that she loved. “Life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother.”- MaryAnne was known as “mom” to many; comforting, encouraging, and offering perspective. MaryAnne was often found in the kitchen preparing meals. Food was how she expressed her love. She shared her love for tradition with her daughter Mikayla teaching her recipes. MaryAnne and Mikayla were best friends. People often laughed because MaryAnne and Mikayla lived across the street from one another. Mom always has everything you need.
Instead of entering retirement, MaryAnne took on a role at St. Boniface Hospital as the manager of Occupational Health and Safety. MaryAnne often came home boasting about her team. She had a fire inside her for making change. Along with her team, MaryAnne was able to get St. Boniface Hospital MASH certified - a major accomplishment that made her very proud.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00pm- 3:00pm on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, at The Leaf, in Event Hall B, Assiniboine Park.
Thank you to all friends and family who touched MaryAnne’s life in any way, and have extended their support, love, and prayers.
Special thank you to Dr. Perija and her team in Internal Medicine at HSC, the doctors, nurses and support staff in both the GD4 Unit at HSC and Victoria Hospital Cancer Care Centre for their outstanding patience, guidance, compassion, and care.
MaryAnne loved her fur babies Maya, Pistachio, and Chardonnay. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to The Tails of Freedom Rescue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in memory of MaryAnne.
