Marlene was born in Winnipeg on January 1st, 1937, the second daughter of three to Hugo & Helene Andresen. She was raised in the Lowe Farm area and later Brunkild where she was baptized & confirmed of the Lutheran Faith at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She also attended school in Brunkild.
After moving to Winnipeg, Marlene’s clerical employment began including working for two Dental Practices, Revenue Canada Taxation, Child & Family Services, and Vital Statistics. Her main hobbies and interests were vegetable & flower gardening. She could hardly wait for her new seed catalogues to arrive. She would page through each one to place her order for spring. Marlene also loved to go to the various Farmers Markets. The St. Norbert Farmers Market being her favorite. Every year, early in the Fall, she would place her order for roasting chickens. She also enjoyed going to various flower nurseries every spring to buy her bedding plants and supplies. Marlene enjoyed baking, cooking, and trying new recipes. During her employment days, she would exchange recipes with co-workers, and she took home some great recipes to try out, such as her taco platter and shrimp mold, just to name a couple.
Marlene was always a caring and generous person when it came to others. She had good neighbours, and always shared the veggies from her garden with them. She also donated to various charities for the less fortunate. A favourite was Siloam Mission. Most of all, Marlene ‘Mom’, ‘Grama’, ‘Great-Grama’ loved to spend time with her Children, Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren. She also loved visiting with Family & Relatives whenever she could.
The family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at Health Sciences Centre, Saint Boniface Hospital, and Deer Lodge Centre for all the expert care and attention Mom received over the past year or more.
