CHARLESWORTH, Marie Louise
1925 - 2022
With sadness and respect we announce that Marie Charlesworth (née Bird) passed peacefully on February 13. Marie endured the struggles of 2020 and 2021 and tried her best to look forward to each day. March 2022 would have seen Marie’s 97th birthday; she was not, however, destined to make that milestone.
Marie was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of Frank and Laura Bird, and lived all of her nearly 97 years in Manitoba, most of it in Winnipeg.
She grew up in Fort Rouge, attending Kelvin High School before working briefly for Pacific Western Airlines. Marie began raising her family on Jessie Ave, but soon moved to Fort Garry, where she and her family remained, except for 8 years in Manitou, Manitoba. In Fort Garry, Marie was an avid curler and golfer at the Wildewood Club where she was a member for many years. Although unable to be a regular parishioner, Marie maintained her affiliation with the congregation at St. Paul’s Anglican Church throughout her adult life. She was a lifelong Blue Bombers fan and loved summers at the family cottage in Winnipeg Beach.
Marie was predeceased by Ken, her beloved husband of 57 years, and also by sisters Laura, Connie and Joyce and brothers Frank and Roy. Surviving Marie are her sons Ron (Heather), Doug (Eleanor), Gord (Joanne), Dave (Sybil) and Rob (Deb), along with 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Marie’s multiple health challenges never lessened her spirit nor altered her focus, which was always her family. She remained a constant and consistent force within her family, always encouraging everyone to achieve their best.
The family would like to thank Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg for their unmatched patience, care and thoughtfulness.
A service will not be held by request; flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations to the CNIB would be appreciated.
