Lois Marshall passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on August 17th, 2023. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Pamela Johnson and Laura Bartel (Hamlin), her sister, Beverley Allen (Jeff), and her stepchildren, Robert Marshall (Lauri Ann), Patricia Stuckless (Rick), and Richard Marshall (Bobbi). She also leaves behind other family, including numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Elmer Wilson. She lost her beloved husband, John Marshall, in 2000, and her steadfast companion, Gail Acaster, in 2021.
Lois was born in Beachburg, Ontario in 1938 and raised in the St. Vital neighbourhood of Winnipeg. A track star at Glenlawn Collegiate, she set a provincial sprinting record that was unbroken for 15 years. She was also the first runner-up in the Miss Blue Bomber contest. She had a long and varied career and her final job was with Transport Canada. Lois loved travelling, especially to Saint Lucia with John on their honeymoon and to Florida with Gail on their winter holidays. The time she spent with John at Poplar Bay was one of her fondest memories. She was always happiest surrounded by her family and she loved hosting and cooking holiday dinners. Her friends meant everything to her and she was vigilant about keeping in touch with them, no matter how far away.
Our immense gratitude to the dedicated staff at St. Boniface Hospital for your kind and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Lois's life will be held on Thursday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, located at 613 St. Mary's Road. Flowers are gratefully declined; instead, please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Lois's name to honour her love of animals.
We love you so much, Mom, and we'll hold you in our hearts forever.
