Lily Gordon Whitbread passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the age of 98 years.
Lily was born in Dover, England on August 8, 1912. She came to Canada with her family in 1920. She was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Edward Whitbread, sister Anne, three brothers Frank, Robert and John.
She is survived by her beloved niece Eleanor McLellan (husband Alex/Paddy) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lily was a direct descendant of Robert Burns, Scotland’s Immortal Poet who is known throughout the world.
In 1934 she received her B.A. from the University of Manitoba and worked in W.O. Love and company, chartered accounts for many years.
She was a member of St. Andrews River Heights United Church, the University of Women’s Club and the Alpha Detta Pi Sorority.
In 1996 she moved to the Wellington and in 2004 moved to West Park Manor.
Lily and the family wish to thank Dr. Bereznay, and the staff of West Park Manor for their kind care, especially nurse Rosemary.
A Celebration of Lily’s Life will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway Winnipeg, Manitoba. A private graveside will be held prior to the service.
