Suddenly on July 15, 2023 at the family cottage, Larry Gordon Shields, in his 78th year, survived by his beloved wife Carol, daughters Tracey (Ray), Kelly, and sons David (Stacie), Carson (Marquie) as well as grandchildren Caroline, Kayden, Seth, Stellan and Sami.
Born in Windsor Ontario then moving to Winnipeg as a youngster where Larry excelled in many sports, especially football where he starred for the Fort Garry Lions and the University of Manitoba Bisons football teams before being drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1968.
Larry was employed as a physical education teacher at Lord Selkirk Regional High School where he met Carol and then moved on to St. Boniface School Division; retiring from Frontenac School in June 2000.
During his retirement years Larry enjoyed summers at the family cottage at Hockey Haven, travelling with Carol and friends, watching and coaching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with reception to follow.
