She is predeceased by her parents, Dolores and Alexander Sandy, as well as her nephews Zack and Isaac. Kim is survived by her husband Jim, children Jeremy (Jaime), and Lindsay (Mike), and her beloved grandchildren Jaidyn, Peyton, Benjamin, Lincoln, and Emersyn.
Mom was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Garden City. Her family roots were in Fraserwood, Manitoba on a family farm where her mother was born. Mom often shared fond stories of spending time out on the farm during her childhood. Her love of rural life, nature and the sense of calm it provided to her remained with mom for her entire life.
Mom spent her career as an educator, and she embodied the traits of love and care for students, staff, and community through her work as a teacher and a principal in the Winnipeg School Division for over thirty years. In her retirement she continued fostering her passion for education with work for the University of Winnipeg and the CATEP program.
While mom touched the hearts and minds of many during her career in the public school system, her true passion in retirement was spending time with her grandchildren. Daily Facetime calls, visits, and outings with her grandkids were things she cherished immensely.
Mom’s love of her family as well as the tranquility of the outdoors was fostered through the time she spent at the lake. You could find her enjoying her tea sitting on the deck or the dock, staring off at the lake and listening to the lake gently lap against the shore. But she also loved the joyful chaos of a full cabin, planning arts and crafts, special desserts, activities for the kids and impromptu dance parties. Mom loved her family more than anything, and her presence will be truly missed.
We will be honouring her memory on Friday December 1st at 11:00 am, at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, United Way Winnipeg, or another charitable organization as mom supported many over the years.
